STUDENTS FAQ’S

How it Works!

Learning online is an accessible and practical education option. No matter where you are in the world, a computer and a reliable internet connection are all you need to connect to our learning platform and participate in one of our online courses.

Course Structure

Your course takes place entirely online in The London Academy of Management and Business, self-contained environment that requires no additional software and is easily accessible via our homepage.

Within LondonAMB, you will have access to a variety of courses in different categories, such as:

  • One hour short webinars.
  • Scheduled live-sessions.
  • Certificate of Attendance or Completion.
  • Weekly instructor-narrated video lectures that you are able to pause and replay.
  • A selection of readings complementary to the week’s topic.
  • Additional web resources, like podcasts that offer multiple perspectives.
  • Instructor-guided discussion boards to answer your questions and expand on key concepts.
  • Different types of assessments with individual feedback from your instructor, for example, short written essays or quizzes.
  • Courses can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Therefore it takes an independent, organized, and motivated learner to get the most out of this flexible learning environment. We provide time management strategies to avoid pitfalls before your course starts.

Self-Assessment

We want you to succeed! Try answering yes or no to the statements below to evaluate if the online learning experience is right for you:

  • I am willing to ask for the help I need in my courses by asking questions of other students and the instructor.
  • I have 6-9 hours each week to dedicate to my class studies.
  • I feel comfortable expressing my ideas and questions in writing and have successfully done so using email, discussion boards, and/or social media in the past.
  • I have the technology, such as a reliable computer and internet access, necessary to participate in an online course.
  • With guidance, I am willing to try to learn new computer technologies, and I understand how to read and follow technical instructions to accomplish new tasks.

Getting Ready

To make sure your first day of online learning is a success, please make sure that your computer meets the minimum requirements for online coursework and that you have updated to the most recent version of the Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge web browser, with all available updates installed.

HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I SPEND ON A COURSE?

The time you spend on different courses can vary.

HOW ARE THE COURSES AVAILABLE ONLINE?

Online courses are delivered using a learning management system. Students log into and can select their course sites. Once a student is in their course site, they can access lectures, PowerPoints, emails, assignments, readings, documents, videos, links, discussion boards, their advisor, and the assignment Dropbox.

WHAT KIND OF STUDENT DOES WELL WITH ONLINE LEARNING?

Students who excel in online courses are generally organized, motivated, independent, and have good time-management skills.

Methods vary by course and instructor but may include pre-recorded or synchronous lectures, videos, podcasts, PowerPoint slides, interactive chat rooms, blog posts, and more.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES WHEN TAKING ONLINE COURSES?

One of the keys to being a successful online student is self-discipline. If you have a family and/or a full-time job while you are taking online courses, it is important that you establish a schedule of when and how you will get your work done.

CAN I TAKE MORE THAN ONE COURSE AT A TIME?

If you are new to online learning, we recommend that you begin with one course. You can always come back and continue your studies with more topics.

HOW DO I SELECT A COURSE?

Visit the course catalog to browse our offerings. In addition to searching by course duration and availability, you can also search by subject to ensure you find a course that reflects your interests. Though it is not required, we encourage those who have not studied online before to consider taking a simple online course first to get a solid grounding in the discipline before exploring more specific disciplines.

Still not sure what course is right for you? Feel free to contact us at help@londonamb.uk with some information on your background and what you hope to learn. We can then provide some personalized course advisement.

ARE THERE PREREQUISITES?

For most courses, there are no prerequisites. Our courses are open to students of all backgrounds who are 18 years of age and older.

I AM A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT, CAN I JOIN?

Courses are open to all students 18 years of age or older. If you are under 18 years old, please contact us (help@londonamb.uk) to discuss this further.

ARE THERE LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS?

Courses are conducted in different languages. You can select courses in your native language or other languages.

FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS

HOW MUCH DOES AN ONLINE CLASS COST?

Each course has its own cost. We believe in life-long learning and sustainable education. Moreover, we know that most of our students have busy schedules. Therefore, we decided to make our courses short and very low cost, just to cover the expenses of the instructors. Moreover, there are no hidden fees.

WHEN DO I HAVE TO PAY?

Full payment should be made before the start of the course unless otherwise specified.

WHAT ARE ACCEPTABLE PAYMENT METHODS?

Acceptable payment methods are all major debit/credit cards and PayPal.

IS FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE?

Some students seek professional development support from their employers or from external scholarships.

Please contact fa@londonuk.uk  to check if you are eligible for financial aid.

WILL I GET MY MONEY BACK IF I DROP THE COURSE?

In order to be granted a full refund, you must cancel your registration by sending an email to refund@londonamb.uk by 5:00 pm (your local time) 7 full business days before the course’s start date.  Please note we are unable to reimburse for any currency conversion fees charged by your credit card issuer.

MY PAYMENT DID NOT GO THROUGH. WHAT DO I DO?

DURING THE COURSE

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR A COURSE?

Registration is available on our website. Just follow these simple steps:

Click the “Apply Now” button in the top right corner of your screen.

Select “Online Courses.”

Choose your course(s).

You will be asked for basic contact information and your credit card payment details. We require full payment at the time of registration, and all tuition is billed in Sterling Pounds. Be sure to check with your bank or credit card company, as your financial institution may charge a foreign transaction fee.

WILL THE LECTURES BE PROVIDED AS A VIDEO LECTURE TO WATCH LATER?

Not at this time. Lectures are delivered live and in real-time. The interactive experience is, in our opinion, the most effective way to learn. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the student to take notes and ask questions during the class.

WHEN SHOULD I REGISTER?

Registration is closed once the course has started or the maximum number of seats are filled. Certain courses can fill up quickly, so be sure to register early.

HOW LONG IS MY COURSE?

There are different course durations. We know that most of our students have busy schedules. Therefore, we decided to make our courses short. Therefore, most courses end on the same day.

HOW DO I INTERACT WITH THE INSTRUCTORS?

Students and instructors communicate primarily through Zoom, course sites, and emails in online courses.

IS THERE INTERACTION WITH OTHER ONLINE STUDENTS?

There is quite a bit of interaction between other students, including group assignments, online discussion forums, online posting boards, reading reflections, and course discussions.

WILL BE THERE ASSIGNMENTS? WHAT ARE INSTRUCTOR’S EXPECTATIONS?

High-level critical thinking is required, and students leave the course with an understanding of the subject and an ability to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting. Standard assignments include reading the course text and additional materials, active participation in online discussions, quizzes or tests, writing papers, etc.

ARE TESTS AVAILABLE ONLINE?

Yes. Many instructors assign tests in their online courses. Students may sign an ethical agreement saying they will not copy or share their exam, and that the person taking the test is the person registered for the course. Tests may be timed, and do not typically allow for open-book responses.

HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE IN A COURSE? WHO WILL BE MY CLASSMATES?

Usually, there are no more than 50 students to ensure quality course delivery and to better facilitate and encourage personalized interaction with the instructor and fellow participants.

HOW DO I GET ACCESS TO THE ONLINE COURSE SITE?

Once you finish the registration process, you will receive an email with your user-id, password, and instructions for accessing the course.

WHAT IF I CAN’T BEGIN ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS OR HAVE WORK INTERRUPTIONS DURING THE CLASS?

A major advantage of online learning is the flexibility it offers participants. Minor delays in participation will not be a problem. Join the class activities as soon as you can.

DO I NEED TO BUY TEXTBOOKS?

All the reading materials you are required to access are included with your course. Instructors may provide recommended and suggested texts for further exploration.

DO I HAVE TO BE ONLINE AT THE SAME TIME AS OTHER CLASS MEMBERS AND FACULTY?

WILL THE COURSE INVOLVE HOMEWORK?

It depends on the course or the instructor. Check the course criteria for more information.

CAN I AUDIT AN ONLINE COURSE?

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

What are the technical requirements for online education at LondonAMB?

You should have an up-to-date web browser such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Internet Explorer. For more detailed information, please see the guides for supported browsers and basic computer specifications.

Our Online Courses can be accessed on a mobile or tablet device, although we strongly encourage you to have access to a desktop or laptop computer and reliable internet connection for certain course components.

Minimum Internet Speed Requirements

You will need a high-speed internet connection to view the online lectures. A minimum 1.5 Mbps connection is required.

For PC-based students:

Internet Explorer 7.0, Mozilla Firefox 4.0, Google Chrome 5.0 (JavaScript and Java enabled) or the latest version of each web browser

Windows 8 or better

Cable modem, DSL, or better Internet connection (1.5 Mbps bandwidth recommended)

Dual-core 2.4GHz CPU or faster with 2GB of RAM (recommended)

Webcam

For Mac-based students:

Safari 3.0, Firefox 4.0, Google Chrome 5.0 (JavaScript and Java enabled) or the latest version of each web browser

Webcam

WHERE CAN I GO TO TEST MY INTERNET SPEED?

You can test your internet speed at speedtest.net.

DO I REALLY NEED A WEBCAM?

Webcams are mandatory.

All students enrolled in an online course are required to have a working webcam for each class session. Instructors will validate attendance at the beginning of each class using your webcam presence. Failure to have a working webcam will result in the instructor marking the student absent for that class session.

Webcams allow students to communicate directly with the instructor of the class without the distractions of using the chat module in the application. This helps to facilitate a more interactive experience for both the student and instructor.
